Bantwal, Jun 19, 2026: A tipper lorry driver was killed after the vehicle unexpectedly rolled backwards and ran over him while he was attempting to repair a mechanical fault. The tragic incident occurred on June 18 at Peruvadi Gudda in Padekallu, Karopady village of Bantwal taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Mahesh, a resident of Bandaru in Beltangady taluk.
According to sources, tipper lorries had been transporting soil from Peruvadi Saravu Gudda to various locations outside the state. At around 10 a.m., Mahesh had brought a tipper lorry to the site for loading and transporting excess soil.
While on duty, the vehicle reportedly developed a technical problem. Mahesh stopped the lorry and went underneath it to carry out repairs. During the process, the vehicle suddenly rolled backwards, trapping him beneath its front wheel. He died on the spot due to the severe injuries sustained in the accident.
Local workers, along with personnel from the Kanyana Sadguru Ambulance service, rushed to the scene and conducted a rescue operation. The body was later recovered from beneath the vehicle and shifted to the Government Hospital in Vittal.
Police from the Vittal station visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and collected information regarding the incident. Further investigation is underway.
