Puttur: Two arrested for illegal cattle transportation

Uppinangady, Jun 18, 2026: Uppinangady police have arrested two persons for allegedly transporting cattle illegally and in a cruel manner in an Eicher lorry. The vehicle was intercepted at Anebail in 34 Nekkilady, while another accused who was travelling in the lorry managed to escape, police said.

The arrested have been identified as the main accused and lorry driver, Pardeen Khan of Kadur, and Javed Pasha of Holenarasipura taluk in Hassan district. Another accused, identified as Rehman, fled from the spot and is currently absconding.

Cattle transportation


The incident came to light in the early hours of June 17 when Uppinangady Police Sub-Inspector Suthesh K.P. and his team were conducting night patrols in the Uppinangady, Matha and Nekkilady areas. They stopped and inspected the Eicher lorry travelling from Hassan and found 16 cattle being transported without any valid documents.

Police seized the cattle and the lorry and registered a case in connection with the incident.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly told police that the cattle had been purchased at a cattle market in Hassan and were being transported to Palakkad in Kerala.
