Mangaluru, Jun 18, 2026: Vitla police have arrested a notorious accused from Puttur who had been absconding for several years after failing to appear before court in connection with multiple theft cases.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Salam alias K.M. Salam alias ‘Dollar Salam’, a resident of Chikkamudnoor in Puttur taluk.
According to police, Salam was booked in a house burglary and theft case registered at Vitla Police Station in 2020 (Crime No. 24/2020 under Sections 457 and 380 IPC) and another theft case in 2022 (Crime No. 34/2022 under Sections 457 and 380 IPC). After securing bail in both cases, he allegedly failed to attend court proceedings and remained absconding for a prolonged period, prompting the court to issue a warrant against him.
Apart from the theft cases, Salam was also facing a serious case at Puttur Town Police Station (Crime No. 45/2023) involving charges of assaulting government officials, obstructing them from discharging their duties, and issuing death threats under Sections 353, 332 and 504 IPC. A separate warrant had also been issued against him by the Puttur court for failing to appear in connection with that case.
Acting on credible information, a team led by the Vitla Police Sub-Inspector conducted a special operation and apprehended the accused near Puttur Railway Station on Tuesday.
The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
