Expert PU College celebrates World Environment Day with plantation drive

Mangaluru, Jun 17, 2026: World Environment Day was observed in a unique manner at Expert Pre-University College, Kodialbail, on Tuesday. Students, along with the college principal and faculty members, marked the occasion by planting Malabar spinach (Basale) and ivy gourd (Tondekayi) saplings.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. Ramachandra Bhat said that people often plant saplings on World Environment Day and later forget about them. He noted that the students had not only planted Basale and Tondekayi plants but had also conveyed the message of sustaining greenery by nurturing them with regular care and watering.

Following the plantation drive, the students conducted a cleanliness campaign at a nearby public park.

The programme was coordinated by Saurabh Anchan, Lecturer in the Department of Physics. Faculty members including Karunakara Balkur (Kannada Department), Pramod Kini (Hindi Department), Rashmi H., Head of the Biology Department, and other lecturers participated in the event.
