Mangaluru, Jun 17, 2026: A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station against Anvith and Rajendra Menda for allegedly illegally extracting sand from the Phalguni River and stockpiling it for sale at Mallali Sankesha in Mogaru village.

Acting on credible information, Bajpe Police Inspector Balakrishna conducted a raid at the location in the presence of witnesses. During the operation, police found around 20 loads of sand illegally stored in an open area on the right side of the road leading towards the Phalguni Riv
er. The sand was seized.

Further inspection along Banattadi Road led to the discovery of approximately 50 loads of illegally stockpiled sand on a hillock, which were also seized. During subsequent searches, police confiscated an additional five loads of sand from another location. Later, 22 more loads were seized from a nearby site.

Near the Seetharama Bhajana Mandir, around 30 loads of sand were found stored in an open area on the left side of the road. In total, police seized 127 loads of sand that had allegedly been illegally stockpiled at various locations in the presence of witnesses. The value of the seized sand has been estimated at approximately Rs 6.35 lakh.

According to the police, the accused had illegally extracted sand from the Phalguni River without paying royalty to the government and had stored it with the intention of selling it without obtaining the necessary permits. A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
