In his inaugural speech, Palemar said that Karavali Utsav no longer organizes its annual exhibition. Instead, Pilikula has decided to continue the annual exhibition and provide a dust-free “Expo” experience to the people of Mangalore. Thanks to Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, small scale industries have a venue to exhibit their products. He mentioned that Karnataka is the 36th highly polluted state in India; and Mangalore occupies the first place for pollution among 60 selected cities.

He said that one of the five major industries in Mangalore is bound to create more pollution; and the authorities have been requested to identify this industry and put an end to it. He also said that plans are afoot to establish a new botanical museum worth Rs 2.5 crore in order to protect and preserve the medicinal herbs of Mangalore.

Mayor M Shankar Bhatt was the chief guest of the event. He said that Pilikula has a great reputation for organizing excellent cultural programmes. Since Pilikula comes within the limits of Mangalore City Corporation, a lot can be done to transform it into a spot of tourist significance, he said.

J R Lobo, the executive director of Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, said that the society will spend the income generated in the Expo to develop the Samskruthi Grama of Pilikula. Simon Exhibitors of Bangalore and Nisarga Enterprises of Mangalore will plan and manage the Expo, he said. The Expo comprises 120 stalls and plenty of entertainment and food.
