New Delhi, Apr 16, 2026: Girls have once again outperformed boys in the CBSE Class 10 board examinations, recording a pass percentage of 94.99 per cent compared to 92.6 per cent among boys. The overall pass percentage stands at 93.70 per cent.

A total of 24.83 lakh students had registered for the exams this year, of whom 24.7 lakh appeared and 23.16 lakh passed. The result marks a slight improvement over last year’s overall pass percentage of 93.66 per cent, when 23.71 lakh students had appeared.

The results were announced earlier than usual this year, compared to May 13 last year, following changes in the examination calendar. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), CBSE introduced a two-phase examination system for Class 10 students for the first time. The first mandatory phase was held from February 17 to March 11, while an optional second phase for score improvement in up to three subjects is scheduled from May 15.

Among regions, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada emerged as the top performers with pass percentages of 99.79 per cent each, followed by Chennai at 99.58 per cent. Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded the highest institutional pass percentage at 99.57 per cent.

In Delhi, the West region recorded a pass percentage of 97.45 per cent, while East Delhi stood at 97.33 per cent. The Panchkula region, covering Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, recorded 92.24 per cent.

Continuing its policy since 2020, CBSE did not release a merit list or declare toppers to avoid unhealthy competition. Instead, merit certificates will be awarded to the top 0.1 per cent of students in each subject through DigiLocker.

The examinations were conducted at 8,075 centres across India and in 26 countries abroad. CBSE offers 84 subjects at the Class 10 level, with students opting for over 26,000 subject combinations this year.

Students can access their results and download marksheets from official websites such as results.cbse.nic.in and cbse.gov.in, as well as through DigiLocker, the UMANG app and SMS services. Those seeking verification or re-evaluation of marks can apply after the results, with detailed guidelines to be issued separately by the board.
