In his inaugural speech, Palemar said that Karavali Utsav no longer organizes its annual exhibition. He also said that plans are afoot to establish a new botanical museum worth Rs 2.5 crore in order to protect and preserve the medicinal herbs of Mangalore.

Mayor M Shankar Bhatt was the chief guest of the event. He said that Pilikula has a great reputation for organizing excellent cultural programmes. Since Pilikula comes within the limits of Mangalore City Corporation, a lot can be done to transform it into a spot of tourist significance, he said.
