Pending files should be sorted out immediately, advises Kodgi

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 22: A. G. Kodgi, the chairman of the third state finance commission, said at the commission’s review meeting, which was held at the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) today, that all files and applications to licenses, along with many other issues lying pending in various departments ranging from the district administration to the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) should be sorted out within a week. He urged the civic body to focus on increasing revenue by recovering taxes cent percent.

He also suggested that the civic body should maintain water supply meters properly as there were many complaints lodged with Lancelot Pinto, the MCC opposition leader, about the poor working conditions of these meters and discrepancies in billing consumers, which have forced people to avoid paying their water bills on time.

Commenting on Lancelot Pinto’s complaints that the roads of the city get flooded during the monsoons, Kodgi said that the civic body should avoid focusing on road work alone and should focus more on constructing proper drains across the city. He suggested that construction of drains and road work should be done simultaneously.

Regarding revenue generation through advertisement, Kodgi said that nobody should display ads, flex boards, and hoardings without the MCC’s permission, urging the civic body to impose fines on those who violate the rules.

Expressing his satisfaction about the developmental projects launched by the civic body, Kodgi said that the MCC tops all the other city corporations in the state. He also welcomed the civic body’s move to implement scientific methods of waste disposal within its limits.

Dr. Mahendra S. Kanti, the member of the commission, Mayor Praveen, Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak, DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, and many other officials were present at the review meeting.
