Marital Harassment: Young Wife Hangs Herself

Mangalore, Jun 28, 2011: Marital harassment has claimed yet another young life in the form of Chandrika Suvarna, a 22-year old newly wed woman who hanged herself at her house in Yekkur this morning.

The victim, the daughter of one Jaya Poojary, was married just this year on March 20. Her husband is Pravinchandra. It is said that problems cropped soon after marriage when the new bride realized that she was being targeted for harassment by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law and that even her husband was taking their side.

Though she forced her husband to shift to a separate house, the harassment by her husband continued unabated. Pushed to a corner, she decided to take the ultimate step and committed suicide at around 9:30 a.m.

Kanankanady police, who are investigating the tragedy, have registered a case against the errant family, including Pravinchandra, his mother Devaki and sister Sunitha.
