Kidnap Case Cracked in Manipal; Victim Rescued, Eight Arrested

Udupi, Apr 12, 2026: Manipal police have cracked a kidnapping case by rescuing the victim and arresting eight persons from Telangana involved in the crime.

The incident occurred on March 31 around 12:15 pm near a hospital in Manipal. Complainant Ram Madivala of Dasaramakki in Kundapur had brought his brother Lakshman for treatment. While Ram and his brothers Rajesh and Sudheer were at a nearby canteen, a group of 7–8 persons arrived in a black car without a number plate. They targeted Rajesh, who tried to flee but was overpowered and abducted. The accused then escaped towards Hiriyadka.

The complainant identified the accused as Mallareddy, Tulaja, Narasinga, Hussain, Shankar, Nagesh, Parameshwar, and Vijay, stating they were known to the family in connection with a business matter linked to Telangana.

Following the complaint, a special team led by Manipal police inspector Mahesh Prasad, including PSI Thimmesh B N and PSI Sudarshan Doddmani of the Udupi cyber police station, launched an investigation.

Acting on leads, the team traced the suspects to Telangana and conducted a late-night operation at a lodge in Govindapalli, Jagitial district. Around 3:30 am on April 9, all eight accused were apprehended.

The kidnapped victim, Rajesh, was rescued safely. Police also seized the vehicles used in the crime, including a Kia Carens (TG 05 C 1716) and a Mahindra Thar that was being used without a number plate.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the abduction.
