New Delhi, Sep 17, 2026: The Tata Sons board on Thursday approved a fresh five-year term for N. Chandrasekaran as executive chairman of the Tata Group’s holding company.

The decision comes weeks after Chandrasekaran had indicated that he would not seek another term. The reasons for the change in position were not immediately clear.

According to reports citing sources, board members felt that continuity in leadership would provide reassurance to prospective investors, particularly if Tata Sons moves ahead with plans for a potential public listing. Management stability is generally considered important to investors during the lead-up to an initial public offering (IPO).

Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, reportedly voted against Chandrasekaran’s reappointment. However, the resolution was approved by a majority of the board.

Chandrasekaran’s current five-year term is scheduled to end in February 2027. The new term will extend his tenure for another five years.
