Udupi, Sep 16, 2026: A woman’s mangalsutra was allegedly stolen at the Kota Amrutheshwari Temple in Kota, Brahmavar taluk, taking advantage of the heavy rush of devotees during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

A large number of devotees had gathered at the temple for Ganesh Chaturthi. The thieves allegedly targeted a woman who was receiving teertha near the sanctum and fled with her mangalsutra amid the crowd.

Mangalsutra theft


The incident was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras. Preliminary information suggests that three women were involved in the theft.

Kota police have registered a case and launched an investigation based on the CCTV footage.
