Ullal, Sep 16, 2026: A 21-year-old bike rider who suffered severe head injuries in a collision between a motorcycle and a scooter near Kuthar on Monday night has been declared brain dead. Following medical advice, his parents have decided to donate his organs.
The deceased has been identified as Varshith Kulal, younger son of Gopal and Vedavathi of Ayere Bettu in Kuthar.
The accident occurred around 7.30 pm on Monday when Varshith was riding home from Kuthar. Near an auto workshop, his motorcycle collided head-on with a scooter travelling from Ranipura towards Kuthar.
Varshith was thrown onto the road in the impact and sustained critical head injuries. He was shifted to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte for treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared him brain dead on Wednesday.
Following the decision by his parents, arrangements have been made for organ donation. A medical team from Bengaluru has arrived to carry out the procedure, which is expected to be completed by afternoon.
Hospital sources said requests have been received from different hospitals for Varshith’s kidneys, liver, heart and lungs. The organs are expected to be transported through a green corridor following the donation procedure.
The scooter rider, Dheeraj, also sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Varshith was unmarried and was reportedly working in fabrication. He is survived by his parents and an elder brother.
Mangaluru South Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating the accident.
