New Delhi, Apr 10, 2026: Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma, who was facing impeachment proceedings following the recovery of burnt wads of currency notes from his Delhi residence, has resigned from his post, sources said on Friday.
In his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu on April 9, Justice Varma stated, “While I do not wish to burden your august office with the reasons that have compelled me to write this, it is with deep anguish that I tender my resignation from the office of Judge of the Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad with immediate effect. It has been an honour to serve in this position.”
Justice Varma had earlier been repatriated from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court after the alleged recovery of burnt cash from his official residence in New Delhi on March 14 last year.
