Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92

Mumbai, Apr 12, 2026: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, whose versatile voice defined generations of Indian music, passed away at the age of 92.

Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the demise, stating that the last rites will be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai at 4 pm on Monday.

Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 following extreme exhaustion and a chest infection, according to family sources.

With a career spanning over eight decades, Bhosle was celebrated for iconic songs such as Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Kajra Mohabbat Wala, Rangeela Re, and Dil Cheez Kya Hai. She began her journey as a child artist in the 1943 Marathi film Majha Bal and went on to become one of India’s most prolific and versatile singers.

The younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, Bhosle carved a distinct identity for herself across genres ranging from cabaret numbers to ghazals and classical compositions.

Her illustrious career earned her numerous honours, including two National Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Padma Vibhushan.

Bhosle is survived by her son Anand.
