Mangaluru: Pandeshwar police ASI dies after sustaining severe burn injuries

Mangaluru, January 12, 2026: Pandeshwar police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harishchandra Berike (57), who had suffered severe burn injuries, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Sunday, January 11.

According to sources, the incident occurred on December 28 at his residence in Vyasa Nagar near KPT in Mangaluru. Harishchandra sustained serious burns while burning dry leaves at his house. He was immediately admitted to a hospital and had been undergoing treatment for nearly two weeks. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.


Police


Harishchandra was a native of Kavugoli in Kasaragod district. He had earlier been residing in Baikampady and later built a house and settled in Vyasa Nagar a few years ago.

He joined the police department in November 1993 and had completed 33 years of service. At the time of the incident, he was serving as an ASI at Pandeshwar police station.
