Mangaluru, January 7, 2025: A fisherman died after losing balance and falling into the river while anchoring a fishing boat at Old Bunder.
The deceased has been identified as Prahlad Chauhan (33), a native of Barkhas Pali village in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Prahlad had come to Mangaluru a year ago and was working in the fishing profession.
The incident occurred around 11 pm on Monday at the Uppu Dakka area of Old Bunder, while he was tying the rope of the purse seine boat “Hassan Al Bahar,” which was anchored there. He reportedly lost control and fell into the river.
Other fishermen on the boat immediately launched a rescue operation and pulled him out of the water, but Prahlad had already succumbed.
After conducting a postmortem at Wenlock Hospital, the body was sent to his native place by air. A case has been registered at the Pandeshwar Police Station in connection with the incident.
