Mangalore: Bunder police arrests man for making extortion call in Ravi Poojary’s name

Mangalore, Dec 2, 2013: The Bunder police have arrested a man on December 1, Sunday for making extortion calls and threatening a businessman in the name of underworld don Ravi Poojary.


Ravi poojary 1The arrested has been identified as Samshuddin (32), a resident of Akkarakere, Ullal. While another accused Fayaz of Bibi Alabi road, Bunder is absconding.


Reportedly, Samshuddin had made a first call to Bharat Bhai(41) owner of Mataji Hardware at Bibi Alabi road November 7 night and demanded money, introducing himself as Naveen, an aide of underworld don Ravi Poojary. Bharat said that he did not have money and disconnected the call.

On Nov 8, when Samshuddin called him, Bharat replied with same answer and cut the call. Angry Samshuddin again called Bharat on his mobile phone after three hours and demanded to pay Rs 10 lakh or would kidnap his son.

Finally, Bharat approached the Bunder police on the same day and filed a complaint. Bunder police led by inspector Cheluvaraju and PSI Ramakrishna K R under the guidance of police commissioner Manish Karbikar conducted the investiigation and traced Shamshiddin.

Police arrested Samshuddin and produced in court and remanded to judicial custody for 12 days, while Fayaz managed to escape.

Fayaz runs a mobile phone shop next to Mataji Hardware and is said to be suffering from some illness. In order to get money for his treatment, he joined hands with Samshuddin in making an extortion call.

During interrogation, Samshuddin revealed that they used name of Ravi Poojary just to extort money and didn’t knew who Ravi poojary was.

These people this extortionists mus be taken to task. We should not Mangalore another Mumbai. Making money like this is a criminal offence at nay cost
