Moodbidri: Youth dies by suicide during video call with sister

Mangaluru, Aug 1, 2026: A 25-year-old man allegedly died by suicide while speaking to his sister over a video call at Nanil in Beluvai village of Moodbidri taluk in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Syed Anwar (25), son of Abusali Ismail, a native of Kajoor in Belthangady taluk.

According to police sources, Anwar had been living with his wife and their two-year-old child in a rented house in Beluvai for the past few months. The couple reportedly had frequent marital disputes, and a complaint had earlier been lodged with the police in connection with the matter.

Anwar, who worked as a driver for a fish transport vehicle, had been unemployed for some time. He had recently returned from Bengaluru. On Thursday, another argument reportedly broke out between the couple, following which his wife left for her parental home with their child.

Police said that before taking the extreme step, Anwar made a video call to his sister and allegedly told her that he was ending his life as he was distressed over alleged harassment from his wife’s family.

Alarmed by the call, family members rushed to the rented house, but found him dead.

Moodbidri Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
