Udupi, Nov 3, 2013 : Purse-seine fishermen of Malpe picketed the Malpe police station on December 2, Monday in protest against the allegations of the Malpe Deep Sea Fishermen.
The Malpe Deep Sea Fishermen’s Association had earlier alleged that small fish were destroyed due to the use of 8m.m. fishing nets by purse-seine fishermen. The deep sea fishermen had lodged complaints against the purse-seine boat fishermen alleging that they had threatened them.
In protest, the purse-seine boat fishermen picketed the police station saying they had never threatened anyone and that the allegations were false.
Udupi DySP Dr Prabhudeva Maane, Circle Inspector Maruthi Nayak and others arrived and held talks with the fishermen. The Tahsildar informed that talks will be held with the associations concerned to settle the issue.
Gurudas Bhandari, Krishna Suvarna, Rama Suvarna, Chandrakanth, Yashodhar Amin, office bearers of the purse-seine boat fishermen’s association were present.
