Mangaluru, Feb 01, 2024: At the MCC Council meeting held on January 31, Wednesday, opposition councilors staged a protest near the well of the House alleging that water supply was irregular in various wards despite the implementation of Jalasiri scheme. Bendore ward corporator Naveen D’Souza even lied down on the floor in the well of the House in protest.
Speaking on the issue, he said though Jalasiri scheme has been implemented on an experimental basis in three wards including ward number 38, there is no continuous water supply. Many other opposition members too joined Naveen in raising the issue.
Vinayraj of Congress alleged that the Jalasiri officials lacked the will power.
Later following the instructions of the Mayor, the Deputy Director of the Project laid down technical details of the project which did not pacify the agitated opposition members.
Later Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur instructed officials to come up with information on the wards where the scheme have been implemented on a trial basis, during the meeting on the project to be held on February 8.
The Mayor also instructed the MCC Commissioner to convene a meeting of the PDOs of respective gram panchayats to discuss the issue of illegal water connection in some apartments from Thumbay to Adyar.
Deputy Mayor Sunitha was also present.
