Landslide at Kadri partially destroys house

Mangalore, Jun 26: A landslide occurred along NH66 near Barebail on Kadri Hills today, in the course of which a house was damaged.











The house belongs to Herman C. J. Pereira. The main gate of the house is completely buried under a pile of mud. Mr. Periera’s car is also partially damaged and so is part of the house.

The landslide occurred at around 7:30 p.m. Stating that no authorities have visited the spot so far, Mr. Pereira has urged those concerned to take the required measures. He has already lodged a complaint with the Kadri Police against the poor quality of work done by IRCON, which has received a contract from the National Highway Authority of India.

Although the road was completed just one-and-a-half years back, it is of poor quality and the construction wall constructed for safety does not serve its purpose.

The residents have been put through a lot of inconvenience because of the landslide because the way to their house has been cut off. Herman, an architect, stays with his family of wife and son. He told reporters that he is grateful his family escaped unhurt and said that he has suffered a financial loss of Rs. 1 lakh because of the landslide.
