Dr V S Acharya dispUdupi, June 28: Dr. V. S. Acharya, the district-in-charge minister of Udupi and higher education minister, said that issues related to the development of Udupi were discussed at the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting.

The minister told reporters that an external fishing harbour will be constructed to the east of Maravanthe at the cost of Rs. 40 crore, with the capacity to hold around 250 – 300 fishing boats.

He also said that the mini fishing habour will be constructed at Alvegadde in Shiroorat at the cost of Rs. 7 crore. The administration has already approved this project and a meeting will be held shortly at Bangalore to discuss projects regarding dredging and desilting at Hejamadi, Hangarukatte, Gangolli, Malpe, and Kundapur ports, he added.

The department has also marked 1,113m as areas prone to sea erosion in Udupi. Boulders have been placed at Udyavara – Padukere and certain areas of Kundapur. The DC has submitted a proposal suggesting a project worth Rs. 11.18 crore to check sea erosion.

He also said that all elected representatives, including CM B. S. Yeddyurappa, will visit a school in their constituency on July 5 to interact with the children and their teachers under a programme titled Shalegalalli Navu Neevu.
