Byndoor: Temple priest loses over Rs 6 lakh in online fraud

Byndoor, Sep 8, 2025: A case has been registered at Byndoor police station after a temple priest was cheated of several lakhs of rupees in an online scam.
According to police, Gurumurthy J. Hegde (31), priest of Uppunda Durgaparameshwari Temple, received a link on his mobile phone on September 6. The message promised higher returns if he completed certain online tasks. Believing the offer, he transferred a total of ₹6,16,700 in multiple transactions to different bank accounts. However, the fraudsters failed to return the money, thereby cheating him.
