Udupi, June 5, 2025: Nineteen-year-old Chinmayi Shetty, daughter of Hebri Karunakar Shetty and Pooja Shetty, and CA Akshatha Pai, daughter of Amrith Pai, lost their lives in the stampede in Bengaluru outside the Chinnaswami Stadium during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 4, Wednesday.
CA Akshatha Pai was one of the victims of the stampede. She was the daughter of Amrith Pai, who runs a shop opposite Shree Venkatramana Temple in Mulki. Akshatha Pai was pursuing Chartered Accountancy (CA) in Bengaluru and was a gold medalist in the CA examination.
Akshatha had married engineer Ashay a year and a half ago. The couple was entering through Gate No. 17 when the stampede broke out. During the chaos, Akshatha got separated from her husband. While Ashay was rescued, Akshatha sadly lost her life. Her death was confirmed by her husband, who identified her by the RCB jersey she was wearing.
Chinmayi Shetty was pursuing her bachelor of engineering at Jyoti Engineering College on Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru. A talented student and a passionate Yakshagana learner at ’Yakshataranga Bengaluru (R)’, she was also an accomplished basketball player.
“The untimely demise of such a bright and promising young talent has left her family, friends, and the Yakshagana community in deep sorrow. May her soul rest in peace. May the Almighty grant strength to her parents and loved ones to bear this profound loss,” said Yakshataranga Bengaluru (R) in a press release.
