Chikkamagaluru: Vittla student drowns while swimming with teachers

Vittla, Apr 13, 2026: In a tragic incident, a student from Vittla drowned while swimming with his teachers at Jayapura in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.

The deceased has been identified as Aniket (14), son of Govardhan Naik, a resident of Kashimath, Vittla in Dakshina Kannada district.

Incident Details:
Aniket, who was studying at the Gurukula-model Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institution in Jayapura, had gone to a swimming pool with his teachers on Sunday afternoon when the mishap occurred.

While swimming, Aniket reportedly drowned and became critically unconscious. He was immediately pulled out of the water and rushed to a hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed.

Sources said that the post-mortem has been conducted. The body was brought from Jayapura to Vittla on Sunday night, and the last rites will be held on Monday morning at the Hindu crematorium in Vittla.

A case has been registered at Jayapura Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
