Bantwal, Dec 11, 2013: Officials of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies seized nearly 140 kg of rice meant for distribution under the Anna Bhagya Scheme, which was hidden in the room of the labourers of the Panchayat cleanliness workers at Palike near Vittal on December 10, Tuesday.

It has been alleged that the rice ws hidden in the room by a Gram Panchayat worker who had even sold some rice to the ignorant workers at a higher price.
The raid followed a tip off and the rice was found in the room of a labourer named Venkamma. As per the woman, one Satish, a resident of Nekkarekadu who was a pump operator in the Panchayat had sold around 20 kg of Anna Bhagya rice at the rate of Rs 15 per kg and had stocked the remaining rice in her room.
The raiding team included Bantwal Food Inspector Srinivas, Sub-Inspector Sridhar, Prakash, Village Accountant and others. The officials said a case will be filed in the AC court.
