Shirva, Aug 8, 2026: The sudden death of businessman and politician David D’Souza has left his family devastated, with his wife Priya David breaking down in tears while recalling the incident.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Priya said David had left for his office after lunch as part of his usual routine and had not discussed any business-related matters with the family.

David

“He never shared any business matters with us. He always made sure that the family had everything it needed. When we came to know about the incident, we rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital. However, we could not save him,” she said.

Priya said David had worked extensively for the development of the locality through his roles as a businessman and politician.

Demanding strict punishment for those responsible, she said, “Those who shot him and spilled his blood should receive the same kind of punishment. I am relieved that the police acted swiftly. The accused and those who conspired behind the crime must be given the strictest punishment.”

The incident occurred around 3.30 pm on Friday in front of St Francis Xavier Church in Pila village, under the Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat limits and Shirva police station jurisdiction.

According to police, two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly fired three rounds at David before fleeing the scene. David, a former president of Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat, businessman, contractor and active local Congress leader, sustained serious injuries and died at the spot.

Three Arrested

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder. They have been identified as Raju, 42, from Uttar Pradesh; Ajay Rastogi alias Anmol, 23, from Uttarakhand; and Ziahul Wajul Sheikh alias Deepak, 38, from Bihar.

During the arrest of the prime accused, Raju allegedly attempted to attack the police. In self-defence, the police shot him in the leg and subsequently took him into custody.
