Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Aug 8, 2026: At least seven passengers were killed and 11 other injured in an accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district at 7:15AM on Saturday, according to police officials quoted by Press Trust of India. The incident happened when a bus overturned and plunged onto the road on the lower plane.

The bus was traveling from Bairagarh to Chamba town. The accident occurred near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road.

Bus overturn

This road is known to be a rather troublesome route. It is in the remote Churah valley and has very narrow winding stretches of road with steep drop-offs.

Still, it serves as a key route on the way to the high-altitude Sach Pass. The bus skid off the road when it was reportedly passing the Patwar Circle.

The private bus was owned by Sharma Travels, as per a Jagran report.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in an unrelated development, said the state government is giving top priority to building and upgrading roads in Chamba district.

Speaking at the closing cultural event of the International Minjar Fair in Chamba on Sunday evening, Sukhu said the government has spent around Rs 591 crore on road construction and expansion in the district.

His remarks come days after heavy rain triggered flash floods and landslides in Chamba. The disaster damaged over 25 houses and commercial buildings and buried several vehicles under debris.
