Udupi: David D’Souza murder accused shot in leg while trying to flee police custody

Udupi, Aug 8, 2026: Police have arrested the accused in the murder of David D’Souza, who was shot dead in broad daylight at Mudarangadi in Kapu taluk of Udupi district.

The accused, identified as Raju, was being taken into custody by a team led by Kapu PSI Tejaswi and Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna when he allegedly attacked the police and attempted to escape near Ottinene in Byndoor.

In an attempt to stop him, Kapu PSI Tejaswi fired his service pistol at Raju’s leg and apprehended him.

PSI Tejaswi also sustained injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi. Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar visited the hospital and enquired about his condition.
