New Regional Party to Be Launched in Karnataka, Says Activist Ahimsa Chetan

Mangaluru, August 9, 2026: Social activist Ahimsa Chetan has announced plans to launch a new regional political party aimed at building an egalitarian society across Karnataka based on the principles of the Constitution, equality and social justice.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Mangaluru on Saturday, Chetan said people-oriented governance was the need of the hour in view of the policies of the present government and the prevailing political developments.

“We will bring together people-oriented activists and organisers to build an alternative political force at the state level,” he said.

Chetan said the process of registering the party’s name was underway and preparations were being made to officially launch the party at a large convention in Hubballi in January. He said he was touring various parts of Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, as part of efforts to strengthen the party organisation.

Questions Prajaakeeya’s ideological clarity
Commenting on actor-turned-politician Upendra’s Prajaakeeya, Chetan said the party might be making an honest effort. However, he questioned its clarity on social issues and the ideology it advocates.

Opposes Bidadi Township project
Chetan opposed the proposed Bidadi Township project, alleging that acquiring farmers’ land in the name of development was unjust. “Development should not mean focusing only on Bengaluru while neglecting the coastal region, North Karnataka, Kalyana Karnataka and the Old Mysuru region,” he said.

Congress government criticised over women’s representation
Welcoming women’s reservation, Chetan criticised the Congress government in Karnataka for what he described as inadequate representation of women. “Rahul Gandhi speaks about women’s reservation, but the state Cabinet has failed to provide adequate representation to women, including those from the coastal region,” he alleged.

Calls NEET system flawed
Chetan said the issue with NEET went beyond question paper leaks and alleged that the entire system was flawed. He demanded that Karnataka students be given priority through a system similar to the state’s Common Entrance Test (CET), without central intervention. He also said he would continue to fight against alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) and for the rights of farmers, Dalits and students.
