Vijayapura: Finance businessman hacked to death near Mubarak Chowk

Vijayapura, Aug. 8, 2026: A 48-year-old finance businessman was allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants near Mubarak Chowk in Vijayapura city on Saturday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sharanu Malleshappa Jeevargi, a resident of Kalika Nagar. He was running his own finance business and regularly collected pigmy deposits from customers.

According to preliminary information, Sharanu had arrived in the area for his routine pigmy collection when unidentified assailants attacked him. He was allegedly hacked with a machete and subsequently hit with a stone, resulting in his death.

The exact motive behind the murder has not yet been ascertained.

Golgumbaz police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Golgumbaz Police Station.

Police have launched an investigation, and the exact motive is expected to emerge after further inquiry. The murder has shocked residents of the city.
