Mangalore Today News Network

Uppinangady, Feb 22, 2026: In connection with the death of a young man who was hit by a train near the Haradi bridge close to Kabaka Puttur railway station on Friday, it has come to light that he allegedly died by suicide by coming under the train.

The deceased has been identified as Pavan Kumar (26), a resident of Pulittadi near Uppinangady village.

Train accident

Pavan was employed on a merchant ship but had not reported to work for the past few months and had been staying at home. On Thursday afternoon, he reportedly left his house after telling his mother that he intended to end his life. He had also updated his Instagram display picture with the message “I am dead.”

On February 20, a person was reported dead after being hit by a train travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru near the Haradi bridge close to Kabaka Puttur railway station. The train pilot had informed the station authorities, following which railway police arrived at the spot and shifted the body to Mangaluru.

When Pavan did not return home, his mother informed former Uppinangady Gram Panchayat member Suresh Atramajalu. While gathering information about Pavan, they learned about a body found on the railway track. Upon verification, it was confirmed to be Pavan’s body.

The deceased belonged to a very poor family. Having lost his father, he was raised by his mother, who worked as a daily wage labourer to support his education. His sister had also discontinued her schooling midway to take up work. It is suspected that depression may have driven Pavan to take the extreme step.
