Udupi, Feb 22, 2026: Udupi district police arrested three persons within four hours of a gold chain theft reported at Shankarapura in Kurkalu village of Kapu taluk on Saturday.
The arrested have been identified as Anand alias Hasansab Amingad (49) of Joida taluk, Kiran Dharmaraj Godimani (19), and Shashidhar (19), both from Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district.

According to police, Helen D’Souza (69) was sitting in the backyard of her house around 9 a.m., tying jasmine flowers with a neighbour when a former tenant, Arun, arrived on a motorcycle along with two others. They enquired about a room for rent and left after she informed them that none was available.
Minutes later, one of the trio returned and asked for D’Souza’s mobile number. While she was sharing it, he allegedly snatched her gold chain worth ₹3.5 lakh and fled on the motorcycle with his accomplices.
Based on a complaint filed at Shirva police station, Inspector Azmat Ali examined CCTV footage and identified the black motorcycle used in the crime. Alerts were issued to police check-posts across the district.
The Byndoor police intercepted and arrested the accused near the Shiroor check-post and handed them over to Shirva police for further investigation. The stolen gold chain and the motorcycle used in the crime were recovered.
The accused have been booked under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The arrest operation was led by Inspectors Azmat Ali and Manjunath Marabad, along with PSI Sunil Kumar.
