Udupi, Jan 18, 2012 : Shri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji of Sode Vadiraja Mutt ascended the Paryaya Sarvajna Peeta at 6:20 a.m. on Jan 18 Wednesday to the accompaniment of chants from the Mngalastaka and Dwadasha Stotra. He took over from Shri Laxmivara Teertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt, who had occupied the Peeta and handled the responsibilities associated with it for the past 2 years.

Having ascended the Paryaya Peeta, Shri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji will preside over the daily activities at the Shri Krishna Temple and will conduct pujas for the following 2 years. This is the Sode Mutt Seer’s first Paryaya.

Before ascending the sacred Peeta, the Swamiji had taken a dip in the holy pond, after which he got ready for the rituals. Dressed in a saffron silk shawl, with a turban placed over his head, he entered the temple through the Jodukatte entrance, where he was received by the heads of the other Mutts.

The paryaya procession comprised six colorfully decorated palanquins within which the six swamijis were seated. The procession comprised cultural and folk troupes along with tableaux. The route taken by the procession was adorned with colorful arches and flowers. A large number of devotees stood on either sides of the roads to witness this gala procession, which comprised 15 cultural teams and 17 tableaux.

Shri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji had a darshan of Lord Krishna through the legendary Kanakana Kindi, after which he bowed before Anantheshwara and Chandramoulishwara. He was accompanied by Shri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt.

Shri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji also escorted him to the Paryaya Peeta and then ceremoniously handed over to him the Akshaya Patra and the right to worship Lord Krishna. Later, the swamiji presided over the Paryaya Darbar, which was held at Rajangana, along with the heads of other Mutts.

Dr. Shripathi Rao, R. K. Padmanabhan, Katte Vadiraja Acharya, Dr. Ganjifa Raghupathi Bhat, Dr. Mohan Alva, Sudha Narayan Murthy, Justice B. N. Srikrishna, Kumble Sundar Rao, and Sandhya Pai received the Paryaya Prashati on this occasion.

The most important people present were CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya, Mysore District-in-charge Minister Ramdas, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, Raja Marthanda, Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Coastal Development Authority Chairman Nagaraj Shetty, NRI B. R. Shetty, IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy, and many others.
