Moodbidri, Nov 11, 2011: The 8th edition of the 3-day Alva’s Nudisiri, which is based on the theme of “Kannada manassu, sangharsha, samarasya” was inaugurated on Nov 11 Friday at 10:00 a.m. by Dr. Baragooru Ramachandrappa, the senior writer.
Dr. Baragooru Ramachandrappa and Nadoja Dr. M. M. Kaluburgi, the senior research scholar and president of the programme, were taken in a grand procession to the Rathnakaravarni Vedike of Pandith Bheemsen Joshi Hall, Vidhyagiri.
Dr. Ramachandrappa inaugurated the event by pouring milk into sheaves of paddy and lighting the lamp. In his inaugural address, he said that Kannada is now at the mercy of a few powerful, rich, and influential people while those who are genuinely concerned about its welfare are sidelined. Stating that this issue needs to be urgently addressed, he said that Kannada-speaking people are known for their open-mindedness, their support to women’s empowerment issues, and their love for equality.
Dr. M. M. Kaluburgi said in his presidential address that culture is always a mixture of several aspects, adding that foreign culture should become complementary to one’s own culture.
Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Trust, delivered the keynote address.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Anand Alva, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, and others were also present.
