Puttaparthi, Apr 11: The condition of spiritual guru, Sathya Sai Baba, who has been undergoing treatment since March 28, has again turned critical with doctors attending on him diagnosing him with jaundice on Sunday.

 

The 85-year-old godman, who has been convalescing at the Sathya Sai Baba Institute of Higher Medical Sciences in Puttaparthi, had shown improvement signs over the last two-three days and the doctors had even considered taking him off the ventilator aiding his lungs.

However, with him being diagnosed with jaundice, his liver has been revealed to be malfunctioning.Doctors said on Sunday they could not commit on when he would recover.

Being treated for multi-organ dysfunction, the doctors have managed to find a new problem everytime there has been some improvement in the godman’s health.

They continue to maintain that his condition continues to be “critical” although he is showing signs of improvement and has been responding to the treatment.The official health bulletin  said: “Baba has shown slight improvement in the functioning of the kidneys.

However, he continues to be on intermittent slow hemodialysis and ventilatory support. His vital parameters of health are stable and satisfactory.”Senior doctors deputed by the Andhra Pradesh government to attend on Baba have said: “His liver is slightly damaged and he is suffering from jaundice.”

However, there is no mention of the condition of his liver in the official health bulletin.Senior gastroenterologist Nageshwar Reddy flew in specially from Hyderabad to treat the jaundice adding that they still had hopes of recovery.

Sai Baba was admitted the hospital 14 days ago on complaints of throat pain. The doctors, however, found that there was a problem with his heart and arranged for an immediate surgery. His heart is being aided by a pacemaker post surgery.

On Sunday, after seeing Baba in the ICU, the doctors said that he was stable, meaning that his pulse, blood pressure and other parameters are stable with minimum medication.

The doctors further said that Baba still could not consume food through the mouth. It is being supplied through a tube and if there is any additional requirement, it is given intravenously.Also, another important indicator reflecting the condition of his kidneys –– his urine output –– doctors said was very less.
