Mangaluru, Feb 14, 2026: In a major operation against narcotics trafficking, the Mangaluru City Police have arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly selling MDMA.
The arrested accused has been identified as Peter Ikedi Belonwu (36), a Nigerian citizen, who reportedly resumed his illegal activities soon after being released on bail in a similar case.
The accused had earlier been arrested by city police on charges of drug trafficking and remanded to judicial custody. However, after securing bail from the court, he allegedly violated the bail conditions and restarted his unlawful operations.
According to police sources, the accused procured MDMA from Bengaluru and ran a distribution network supplying the drug to local dealers and students in Mangaluru and Kasaragod. Acting on specific intelligence inputs about his continued involvement in the drug trade, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted an operation and arrested him.
At the time of arrest, police seized a substantial quantity of MDMA and other incriminating materials. It is reported that the accused frequently changed locations and used multiple mobile phone numbers to evade police surveillance.
Police further stated that in October 2024, the accused was arrested in Bengaluru, during which 6 kg of MDMA worth ₹6 crore was seized. Prior to that, he was also arrested by Bengaluru police in 2023 in connection with drug trafficking activities.
