Udupi, Feb 15, 2026: Udupi City police have arrested five persons in connection with a murderous assault on Congress leader near PPC Cross, following a minor altercation at a hotel.
The accused were nabbed from Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district on Friday. Those arrested are Akshat Pai (27) of Kunjibettu, Sushant (25) of Shivalli, Ramananda Pai (42) of Udupi, Santosh Koraga (38) of Uppoor, and Shashank Nayak (25) of Alevoor.

Police said the incident stemmed from a trivial argument during a dinner visit by the victim, Sharath Kundar, at a hotel in Manipal on January 30. Nursing a grudge, the prime accused allegedly lured Sharath to PPC Cross on the pretext of a compromise.
Around 11.30 p.m., the accused arrived in Tata Safari and Mahindra Thar vehicles and attacked Sharath with a sword and iron chairs, causing serious injuries to his right palm, middle finger and left wrist. He was rushed to Hi-Tech Hospital for treatment.
A case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Udupi City police station. A special team tracked and arrested the accused, seizing a Hyundai Venue car worth about ₹8 lakh and two mobile phones used in the crime. The accused will be produced before a court.
