Indian student from Karnataka goes missing in California, embassy raises concern

California, Feb 14, 2026: A 22-year-old Indian postgraduate student, hailing from Karnataka, went missing in California on February 10. The student, identified as Saketh Sreenivasaiah of UC Berkeley, was last seen in Berkeley.

The Consulate General of India in San Francisco said it is in contact with his family and local police and is closely following the case.

“Consulate General of India in San Francisco is deeply concerned about the disappearance of Saketh Sreenivasaiah, an Indian post-graduate student of UC Berkeley, hailing from the State of Karnataka. The Consulate is in touch with the family and also is in contact with the concerned local authorities to locate the student," read the post by the Consulate General of India.

Last Seen Near Campus

Local reports said Saketh was last seen on February 10 in the 1700 block of Dwight Way in Berkeley. Police described him as around 6 feet 1 inch tall, with short black hair and brown eyes. They added that he may be at risk and asked the public to share any information.

About The Student

Saketh moved to the United States for higher studies after completing his engineering degree from IIT Madras. At Berkeley, he was pursuing his master’s and had written online that he was interested in new technology and materials research.
