Karwar, Jan 12: The Russian naval personnel, who have come to India on board the INS Vikramaditya, are in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Controversy erupted after some of the Russians were caught on camera drinking alcohol in public while shopping in Karwar in Karnataka. Later, some were seen swimming nude off the Karwar beach, said a report in the Times of India.
They left the beach after police intervened and told them such behaviour was not permitted on the beach.
The locals blamed the Indian Navy, saying they should have told the Russians about the dos and don’ts in Karwar.
Police said most of the Russians did not understand English and it was difficult for them to communicate to them.
INS Vikramaditya reached its home base in Karwar from Russia early this month. The warship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 16.
