BRICS 2026: PM Modi, Anwar Ibrahim discuss stronger India-Malaysia ties in energy, defence and trade

New Delhi, Sep 12, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including energy, defence, trade and investment.

Anwar Ibrahim is in New Delhi to attend the BRICS Summit.

“Building on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Malaysia in February 2026, the leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a social media post.

The two leaders also exchanged views on important regional and global issues of mutual interest, Jaiswal said.
