Mangaluru, Oct 30, 2026: A 22-year-old woman from Betaguli in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district has reportedly married a 40-year-old married religious teacher from Mangaluru, leaving her parents deeply distressed.
According to reports, the woman, daughter of Dawood Qasim, had been attending a local madrasa to receive religious education. Ashraf Saadi (40), a resident of Asaigoli in Mangaluru, had been serving as a religious teacher at the madrasa for several years.
The woman’s family alleges that Ashraf developed a relationship with her over the past three years under the pretext of imparting religious education. They further claim that he concealed the fact that he was already married and had children.
The couple reportedly entered into a nikah and subsequently registered their marriage at a registrar’s office. Ashraf is said to have brought the woman to his residence in Asaigoli, Mangaluru.
Parents Approach Police
After discovering that their daughter was missing, her worried parents and relatives came to Mangaluru and approached the Konaje police. Following their complaint, the police summoned Ashraf and the woman to the station for an inquiry.
At the police station, her parents, brother and relatives made emotional appeals, urging her to return home. However, the woman reportedly refused to go back with them.
Woman Chooses to Stay with Religious Teacher
During the inquiry, the woman reportedly told the police that she had left home of her own free will and wanted to continue living with Ashraf. She maintained her decision despite repeated requests from her family.
Her parents and relatives were reportedly inconsolable as she left the police station with Ashraf.
Expressing anger over the incident, the woman’s parents alleged that the religious teacher had misused his position and demanded that the Muslim community take action against him and socially boycott him.
