Bengaluru, Oct 29, 2026: A software engineer allegedly raped his friend’s 21-year-old girlfriend and was later kidnapped and assaulted by her friends, who also demanded a ransom, police said on Thursday.

The arrested engineers have been identified as Bursu Mahendra, 23, and his friend Yerryboina Tarun, 23. Both hail from Andhra Pradesh and shared a house in Marathahalli.

The case came to light after Mahendra’s father lodged a complaint on October 28, alleging that his son and Tarun had been kidnapped between 2.50 am and 6 am. Marathahalli police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Using technical analysis and CCTV footage, police arrested 11 suspects, including the 21-year-old woman.

The other accused have been identified as Galeti Raja Kumar, 24; Maripati Manjuanth, 23; Chingepalli Lokanath, 22; Bandlapalli Suhail, 22; Gangareddygaari Narendra Reddy, 22; Shivasubramanyam, 24; Saleem Pasha, 30; Nayeem Pasha, 31; Shabhaz, 26; and Gali Rajesh, 20. Some of them work in private firms, while others are students, police said.

During the investigation, the accused allegedly admitted to kidnapping the two engineers and demanding a ransom.

However, the investigation took a different turn when the woman alleged that Mahendra had raped her between 1.30 am and 4 am on October 24 at the house where he lived with Tarun. She further alleged that Tarun had confined her to a room.

The woman subsequently informed her friends, who allegedly kidnapped Mahendra and Tarun, assaulted them and demanded a ransom.

Following her allegations, police registered a second case, recorded her statement and questioned the two engineers before arresting them in connection with the rape case.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
