Mysuru, Oct 30, 2026: Members of the ’Aramane Ulisi Horata Samiti’ staged a protest in front of Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Mysuru on Thursday, condemning District-in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s remarks about the erstwhile royal family and Mysuru Palace.
The controversy erupted after Yathindra reportedly made critical remarks about the former royal family and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar in response to her suggestion to modify the Dasara celebrations and procession. His comments triggered widespread resentment among sections of the public.
Although Pramoda Devi Wadiyar appealed to various organisations to withdraw their protests, the forum went ahead with the demonstration, expressing solidarity with the royal family. Supporters of the BJP and JD(S) also joined the protest.
More than 350 people gathered in front of the temple, holding placards and raising slogans against Yathindra. They demanded his resignation and an unconditional apology for his remarks.
Yathindra, however, has defended his comments in response to Pramoda Devi Wadiyar’s observations and ruled out apologising.
Former MLA L. Nagendra alleged that Congress governments had repeatedly made statements against the royal family and said the people of Mysuru would teach the party a lesson.
Former Mayor Shivakumar, former Deputy Mayor Shailendra and several others participated in the protest.
