25 years since 9/11: PM Modi remembers victims, hits out at Pakistan over cross-border terrorism

New Delhi, Sep 11, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday remembered the horrific 9/11 terror attacks on their 25th anniversary, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the massacre. He underlined that India, being itself a victim of cross-border terrorism, has been at the forefront of the fight.

25 years ago, two aircraft, hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists, crashed into New York City’s Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, destroying the iconic buildings and killing over a thousand people.

The terror attack marked the deadliest assault on American soil in decades, which further reshaped US foreign and domestic policy for years to come.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “25 years on from the horrific 9/11 attacks, we remember and honour the victims and stand in solidarity with the families whose lives were forever changed. Terrorism has claimed countless lives around the world."

Taking a swipe at Pakistan, the Prime Minister said: “As a victim of cross-border terrorism, India has been at the forefront of this fight for several decades. While the threat keeps evolving, our resolve and opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remain unwavering."

“We stand in solidarity with all efforts to combat this scourge."

India itself has experienced several major terror attacks over the decades –– including the 26/11 attacks, the 2026 Pahalgam attack, and more –– which have significantly shaped its stance on cross-border terrorism, national security, and foreign policy.

Sergio Gor Remembers 9/11 Victims 

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 attacks, asserting that the United States will always stand against terrorism.

“Twenty-five years later, we remember the innocent lives lost on 9/11. We keep their families in our prayers, we will never forget them. We will always stand against terrorism", Gor said.
