Mangaluru, July 30, 2026: A journey that began with despair and uncertainty ended in hope and an emotional family reunion, thanks to the timely intervention of the Pandeshwar Police and White Doves, a local NGO in Mangaluru.

Gopi, a woman from Bilaswara, Uttar Pradesh, had been enduring prolonged harassment at the hands of her husband, leaving her emotionally shattered and mentally exhausted. Unable to bear the distress any longer, she left her home and travelled alone to Mangaluru on June 26. In an unfamiliar city, with no acquaintances or destination, she wandered the streets aimlessly, vulnerable and without support.

Her plight did not go unnoticed. Personnel from the Pandeshwar Police Station spotted the distressed woman while patrolling the city. Recognizing that she was in need of immediate assistance, the officers rescued her and ensured she was taken to a safe location. To provide her with continued care and protection, the police coordinated with White Doves, where she was given shelter.

At the White Doves, Gopi received counselling, emotional support and the care she needed to regain her confidence. Through patient conversations, counsellors were able to learn about her background and obtain details about her family in Rajasthan. They soon established contact with her father and reassured him that his daughter was safe and being cared for in Mangaluru.

Without delay, her father travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Mangaluru. The long-awaited reunion between father and daughter was filled with emotion, as they embraced each other after days of uncertainty and anxiety. The White Doves founder Corrine Rasquinha, who had played a crucial role in restoring hope to the family, witnessed the touching moment before safely handing Gopi over to her father.

The incident highlights the importance of coordinated efforts between the police and social service organizations in protecting vulnerable individuals. It also serves as a reminder that people facing domestic abuse, family disputes or severe emotional distress should seek help rather than suffer in silence. Timely support from the police, women’s helplines and trusted NGOs can make a life-changing difference.
