OMPL to make first shipment of products by January 2014

Mangalore, Sep 23, 2013: ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (OMPL), promoted by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), is likely to make its first shipment of products by January 2014, said Chairman Sudhir Vasudeva.

He was addressing the press meet after the 25th annual general meeting of MRPL on September 23, Monday. He said that the work on OMPL is almost complete. The commissioning process will start from November and will be able to begin the first shipment by January-end.


Paraxylene, which is used for main building block for the polyester industry and benzene, which is used as an intermediate for the production of products such as styrene, polystyrene, phenol, nylon would be the two major products of OMPL, he said.


The OMPL will be established in 442 acres land in Mangalore Special Economic Zone with a estimated cost of Rs 5,750 crore.


MRPL refinery situated adjacent to OMPL will supply the feedstock for OMPL complex.


MRPL has also extended the product supply term agreement with STC, Mauritius for supplying 1.36 MMT per annum of petroleum products, for three years started from August 1, 2013.


P.P. Upadhya, Managing Director, MRPL is hoping for the full commissioning of the phase-III by March end.


Vijay G Joshi, director of MRPL and Vishnu Agarwal, director finance were present at the press meet.
