According to the case, the jail warden was on duty in the veranda opposite the first barrack and instructed inmates to return to their respective barracks for a headcount. At the time, Safwan Hussain, who was near the prison kitchen, allegedly threatened the warden, saying, “You have gone too far; I will kill you,” and struck him on the left cheek.

A case was registered at the Hiriyadka police station, and a chargesheet was filed before the court on January 10, 2012.

The accused was later granted bail and released on May 29, 2013. However, he failed to appear for the subsequent trial and remained absconding.

On April 23, 2026, Safwan Hussain was produced before the court under a body warrant. Following the trial, the court pronounced its verdict on September 28, sentencing him to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 40,000.
